For old time's sake, a frivolous monster of text.

Let us love.
Let us live and let us love.
Let us defy Grave Fortune,
Defy what bitter fate
has been bestowed upon us.
For as grave as she might seem
she is fickle, she ever turns
and turn she shall!

For a moment I was yours,
was it hours or mere seconds
I cannot tell.
But I was yours…
and that they cannot take from you.
Let us not love only for ourselves,
Let us not see our love tainted
by selfish reasons
Let us form a dream and give it life.
As real as the atoms
of which we were made.

If I cannot hold you
I shall hold the dream of us.
Possibilities are not without beauty
And this dream I cherish.
If you are denied me in this life
I shall see you in the coming.

Passion does not serve reason,
and think of him we both do follow,
not only for his divinity but for his passion.
For that purpose let us laugh
in the face of stern reason.

I hate this world in which I am imprisoned,
I hate it and I love it.
It holds the living echo of a greater dream.
Why, why does man so love destruction.
Why so unable to leave a dream alive?
This, my greatest sorrow.

But what use is passion, love?
What use is passion
when drowned in an ocean of indifference,
when buried under a mountain of insensibility?
Ashes of coincidence, of consequence.
A question playing in my mind,
over and over again.
Is it within the power of Man
to rebuild what we destroy?
Is it within the will of Man?
Yes, what use is passion.

What does this world hold sacred, my love?
Surely not death, no, they gawp at death.
They mark their prey and exploit them,
not only in life, but in their death.
It makes me sick.

Divine Fama,
A blessing and a curse,
That was how proud Roma knew her,
As this world has ever known her
It is of the irony of history that now Rome
is but a fragile memory.

Yet life is more, and so is death.
With the next breath you take
cherish life for it may soon be gone.
When your spirits leave you
will you find peace in knowing
what your earthly life has formed?

Ephemeral life, ephemeral world.
Egypt of the divine pharaohs fell,
So did Greece, the realm of
reason, logic and philosophy.

Babylon is a memory,
And the land where it’s name
Once spread fear and awe
Now once more may be turned to dust.

Rome, the conqueror of nations
Is now appointed only to history.
No, no power of this earth will hold
Against the forces of time, coincidence
and human ill intent.

Night has fallen upon this earth,
Let us close our eyes to a dying world,
Let us share in true love what we hold,
in a time when love has succumbed to selfishness.
In these days, when nothing remains, so it seems to me…
Let us turn towards something steadfast,
and listen to the echoes of eternity.
Let us live, and let us die
and let us love.

I don't know much about writing poetry, but I think that's really good. I like your metaphors, and they're not overdone like some people do it.
