Hi, I'm just curious, why is there about 46 pages of blank members?

For all who want to see the list, just hit the letter A, and you will go to the first username, and go to the next page to see more! ;D

It's probably listing the members by their "name" field and there was no equivilent in the old database, just usernames.

So the script I wrote to populate the new database had to leave those fields blank.

I am just wondering if there is anyway that the mods can delete all the other members that aren't doing anything from the list. Therefor we can keep track of how many people are really on here, how many post everyone has, and things like that.

I know posts isn't a compotition and other factors aren't either but would just like to have an updated version of the member list.

Scroll:  I understand your concern.  It would be good to have an updated member's list, for sure.  Probably most of us recognize certain names that post a fair bit.  I know there are some new members that have only posted a few times as well.  I was wondering what happened to Gil Galad.   He was a regular "poster" and hasn't posted anything for about a month.  I even tried to message him, but got no response.  Maybe he is away on vacation or something.

Radagst: hello.  What about members who haven't posted in a really long time - say one year?  Maybe the website could make these accounts go dormant, if they are unused for a long period of time, and then like your hotmail account, bear the potential to be re-activated if the "dormant" members decides to rejoin the discussion.  What do you think?

A point of concern:

There are some old members who would like to rejoin. However, all those pages of members' accounts don't work or truly exist anymore. New accounts don't work either, because only one account is permitted per email address.

Could the non-active/non-existant accounts be deleted so these people can re-register without needing another email?

I'll look into this more when I get everything transfered over to me. One concern is I don't want to lose all the email addresses just yet because I can probably send messages to the old members.

That is a good idea DL. Maybe this will bring old members and possibly new ones here.

So what's happening? Can anything be done to/with all those old accounts?

I know this topic has been dead for... five months, but I thought I'd ask again, even though the member list isn't really important.

Certain inactive members have been on my mind for awhile now - i.e. LOTRFan, Zaku and Gil Galad.  What happened to these guy's?  They used to be so active.  I think what Dark Lord said would be a good idea - that is to use the member list to e-mail all inactive members.  And from there it could be discerned whether or not to delete any inactive members.

Many people have their inactive periods, so to speak, on websites, perhaps due a temprorary lack of interest, and many tend to come back after a [long] while. We still appreciate the presence of these now-inactives' posts. The extensive list isn't causing a serious problem at the moment; perhaps the only accounts that need to be looked at are those that have been registered for a long, long time and have never been active (logged in?) and/or posted.

Is there any chance of fixing/activating/finding the old imported accounts?

I also find it funny that people become members of MET and then simply never post anything.  If you notice at the bottom of the page where it says "latest member," you always see names there of people that never post.  Who are these people?  Ghosts?  Why become a member of a message board and then not post any messages?   Wink
