I found this just now...

article link:
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/26706/Potter-driving-kids-to-Satanism-/

article snip:
The Catholic Church claims JK Rowling's hero encourages children to become Satan worshippers.

And it says unlike the authors of classics like The Lord Of The Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia, Rowling, 42, is not a good role model.

And it gets worse.   Angry

Pfft...you're quoting the Daily Star?

I'm sure that's made by the same people who produce the Daily Mail, an equally paranoid and ridiculous British newspaper, on a par only with such works of misquoted, soundbitten journalism as the Sun. The act of writing serious issues is juxtaposed by half naked pictures of toned, large breasted women, and the newspaper itself is a thing of illiteracy towards finding the most sellable headline. Please remove it from my sight.

As for the issue at hand, I believe this is a last public attempt to raise the issue of Harry Potter and a possible Satanistic connection now that the books are at an end. Though this paper tries me on my belief whether it is true or not, I assume the Catholic church have always had this 'opinion' ever since the books became a public phenomenon. However, I have yet to find a section out of all seven books that refers in any way to demonic practice. In my eyes, the Catholic church really need to become more contemporary, and understanding the fact that children are not the gullible fools that the media makes them out to be. These books have reignited a passion for reading, and the 'magic' reflects the old ideals of witches and wizards, with a clear definition of what is right and wrong. Though even the 'bad guys' themselves are never noted to engage in anything vaguely representative of demonic practice, for as we all know, Voldemort has an entirely different set of intentions (the cleansing of Muggles and Mudbloods from the world).

Rowling herself I believe to be one of the most influential role models of this century. As a woman struggling with finances, her manuscript of the book was read completely by chance, and in turn began it's acclaim in the world. This is the sort of thing that will encourage others to realise their own goals, and do something about them. Some people here joke about just how much money she has made from the books and films, but I think with the achievements she has made, she deserves every penny.

Sorry, again, not from the UK and I haven't been there since I was 15 (and I really want to go back!!!).  I just found the article and posted it because it made me mad.

I completely agree with all of your points.  I would love it if my children wanted to be like J.K. Rowling.  She has created an entire world that you can escape to!  My seven year old wants to be a writer and she is reading the Harry Potter series right now.
