OK guys.
We are a group of people with common interests.
Let's talk LOTR!
Maybe we should all start reading the books again, or watch the movies 'together' and talk about them, or something!

I agree! It's not really that we've been having especially low traffic or anything, but I just feel like we haven't really talked about LotR for a long time. I mean, it's been awhile so we've pretty much already discussed all there is to discuss, but maybe something will come up again. I like your idea- we should all read or watch LotR together, not quite like the mass-read marathon but something like it.

I agree with what Andunie said.  Maybe something fun to do, would be for us to watch the LOTR's cartoons, and discuss what we like or dislike about them, and possibly compare or contrast them with the films.  I already have the Hobbit cartoon dvd, but recently bought the LOTR's cartoon dvd.  That might be something fun and fresh.  It would even be something that people with kids could watch with them.  Hey if we love LOTR's we should be open to other possibilities.

Just some ideas.

the fact is that books>movies(i believe everyone in here enjoy the books much more). So cafter watching the movies i found the towers and return of the king a little boring,of u will tell me"dude u ve seen em 1000 times".but my main point is that watching the first part(the fellowship) helped me make the image of each character better, btw did anyone guys notices that the hobbits part in books were (for me) much more interesting while in the movies was like(when u watch it again ofc) omg its froddo and sam again.

YAY!
I am getting the cartoons.
I also want to start rereading - we just have to wait until I finish a bit of research!

A couple areas that I had hoped would generate more discussion in the past involved topics pertaining to: The Children of Hurin and Farmer Giles of Ham.  Both of which I have read, but few on this board seem to have read them.  It would be great if we as a Tolkien community could get more passionate about his other works.  The above mentioned works, if more would read them, would generate a lot more discussion and passion.  Another Tolkien work that I want to read is Roverandom.  Has anyone read this?

I haven't actually heard of Roverandum *stands in the bad girls corner*

I'm half way through The Children Of Hurin so I'll try & finish it & then we can discuss!
It's slow going because a lot of the names don't sink in first time round, so I have to
keep checking back to make sense of place names and people's names. The story
is fine though - just me trying to commit names & places to memory!

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I think the reason that other Tolkien works aren't as popular on this forum as others might have something to do with the fact this is Lordoftherings.org. Not that I don't enjoy his other books, but I think the forum name suggests the main reason why all of us are here.

Good point, Wolfie.  I guess maybe in some ways I see this site as more of a tolkien.org, rather than simply a lordoftherings.org.  Maybe you're right, which explains why so few have read the other works.  I just wish some of that passion for LOTRs would translate to the other works too.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

 lol

I have The Children of Hurin sitting on my bedside table still - I guess I need to stand in the corner with Shiona!!!  Reading anything but the Hobbit requires a very fresh mind, not the end of the day mind that I usually read with.  I will get to it, but it won't be fast.
