While watching Prince Caspian today I realized there were a ton of LotR-esque elements. Please note that this is not a complaint, only an observation. In fact I really enjoyed the film (way out-did the first film). I think any Fantasy fan will love it (which accounts for most of us here)

Spoiler Alert:

Here's a short complilation:

Prince Caspian/ LotR

1. Near the end of the film trees come to life and lend the good guys a hand in destroying the enemy/ in Two Towers Ents help out Gandalf by attacking the orcs

2. A river comes to life and devours a cavalry/ in Fellowship the river comes to life and washes the Nazgul away

3. A soldier charges Edmund (who is on top of a tower), and to the soldiers suprise he jumps off onto the back of an eagle/ In Fellowship Gandalf jumps of the tower onto an eagle

4. Susan doesn't have time to notch an arrow onto her bow, so stabs the enemy with it instead/ Legolas performs the same feat in LotR

Oh man, I was thinking all the same stuff while watching just an hour ago. Actually, that's not true - I was thinking about how it's got stuff from a whole bunch of various movies.

To add to LOTR similarities there was the large enemy army attacking the little bunch in a some hideout (very attacking-Gondor in ROTK like) and the lets-huddle-round-a-tree at the end (the view and all, very much White Tree stuff).

There was also The Mummy (river eating guy) and others that escape me right now.

.... kept expecting the main villain to scream "TONIGHT WE DIE IN HELL!"

Hahaha. Yeah, I think if had stuck more closely to the book their would have been a lot less previous film similarities. In the book tehre was no river that came to life, the scene with Edmund jumping off the roof wasn't even in it, and if I'm not mistaken the trees actually moving didn't happen until a different book.

I agree - it was enjoyable though - I liked it a lot.
So few fantasy films come out that I really enjoy the ones that do it properly.

Alright, sorry I was wrong. Today I looked at the book and realized that the trees DO attack and the river DOES come to life. It had been a long time since I'd read it. My bad.  Roll Eyes
