I have been wondering the same thing- there haven't been any formal announcements, or notices.

The same question popped in my mind as well.  I know that those who have "The Valor" under their names are the mods.  But what is the difference between one of the regular mods and this new "Istari."

I just noticed this too...

Maybe just a name change. But who knows, it would be nice to have a more active MOD.

It would be far nicer to have a more active FORUM, for all I know. Then maybe the mods would have something to do.
Apart from that, Istari seems a position above the usual Valar-mod.

[EDIT: Were I still I mod, I'd ask you to cut down on that signature pic of yours. I love Hitchhiker's, but that was against the rules, in the good ol' times]

According to Middle Earth rankings, an Istari would be lower in rank to a Valor, as the Istari were probably Maia, who were lower than the gods.  But I'd still like to hear from the mods on this.  Especially Mithrandir or Radagast.

Well met to all!

Beren is right - Istari is a mod and Valar is higher.
I am new, but I did introduce myself in the "If you're new post it here..." topic.
I do plan to be an active mod and would like to see a more active board!

Thanks, Lairënuriel. Your presence is already being greatly appreciated.

But on the member list, there is only one Istari and about 8 Valar, most of whom we recognize as moderators. What's this?

The difference between Istari and Valar is that Valar has a few more administrative permissions.  An Istari is a Mod.

Thanks for the kind words Andúnië, I am enjoying myself.

Well, of course I've noticed you intruduced yourself in that thread, sure.
Is it too personal to ask how you became a mod after... around 10 days? I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just curious. You know Radagast personally, I reckon?

It's nice to see an active member anyway, so my personal welcome. If it counts Wink

Well, since you asked for it:

Valar and Maiar were of the same order, as stated in the Valaquenta, though Maiar were of less degree. They were the people and helpers of the Valar. Istari were Maiar, but in the form of Men to guide and aid the people of Middle-earth.

On this forum, the Valar are the administrators (with a few more permissions) and the Istari are the moderators (a bit less 'powerful', though still of the same order as the Valar).

But on the member list, there is only one Istari and about 8 Valar, most of whom we recognize as moderators. What's this?
During the time this forum had the other lay-out, there was not much activity. Not from the members, nor from the moderators. This trend continued when the current lay-out re-appeared. To make sure every 'old' moderator had the permissions to act adequately to a problem, all were installed as administrators. It is perhaps time to reconsider all the old positions...

Anyway: I'm glad you're all supporting Lairënuriel! It's already great having her here! Thumb up
