I heard at one point that Vin Deisel was a huge LOTR fan and wanted to be in the Peter Jackson films and for some reason it didn't surprise me.
Snippet from an interview:

But Tiger Woods - that is surprising!

That does surprise me on both counts. It makes you wonder whom else in the famous world that is a big fan of the trilogy or even HP series.

The reason why Vin Diesel didn't surprise me is that I had heard at one point that he was a Dungeons and Dragons junkie.  I have never met a roll-player that didn't love all things Tolkien.

Interesting about Vin Diesel.  I love him as an actor and he is a sort of pop culture icon, with some of the films he's made like "The Fast and the Furious."  But I'd have a hard time imagining him being in a Tolkien film.  He plays the "ganster" and "tough guy" extemely well.  To be in a Tolkien film though, I think an actor has to be more polished.  Can you imagine his voice as a Tolkien character?  He'd have to work on a British accent.  Who knows, maybe he could do it?  I'd give him the credit if he could, but would be doubtful if such a role would be for him?

Tiger Woods a Tolkien fan?  Not that surprising.  But one wonders whether he jumped on the band wagon with the release of the movies, rather than having already read the books.

And it seemed to Thingol that this Man was unlike all other mortal Men, and among the great in Arda . . .

Vin could have been an Orc - but he wanted to be Aragorn.   You're right, he would really have to work on his voice.

I love Vin's voice, it is so different. I just love him all around. But however not as much as I love Lij/Frodo Kiss.
