   I figured I'd start a thread here, since no one else has.  I have heard that Tolkien based his view of the friendship of Sam Gamgee towards Frodo, on the loyalty, and friendship of an officer's assistant/bodyguard kind of guy((Peter Jackson said that on the Extended Edition's bonus features.))  I was wondering what everyone else thinks.

Like i said in aprevious reply i totally agree, the war had a HUGE affect in Tolkien

I just realized the name of this post was ...effect on LORD OF THE RINGS... not Tolkien, though it does apply to him, but you can see the obvious effect of the war, all the detail of battle, the death of certain individuals, but also you can see his christian faith plays a part as there is always hope
