Apparently, JRR left a note at some point, stating that the Glorfindel of LOTR was in fact the same Glorfindel that fell at Gondolin fighting the Balrog. He was sent to the Halls of Mandos and given a new body and came back to Middle-Earth.

Now I know there has always been a question about the two Glorfindels - are they one and the same? - but should this note be taken at face value?

After all, JRR wrote lots of notes, but it doesn't neccessarily mean that he wanted all of them to be taken as Gospel. Can anyone shed any light on this? What book is this alleged note in?

I'm sorry, but I don't have time to fully elaborate on the entire question. I can quickly give the title of the book where this note can be found: The History of Middle-earth - Volume 12 The Peoples of Middle-earth - Chapter XIII Last Writings - Glorfindel. I'll return to this topic when I have some more time to spend.

Thanks once again Mithrandir!

I think my collection will have to be expanded to take in a few books and that is one of them.
