Alright, you can check all five of these major works, but don't check it unless you have finished it.  Seriously.  Once you're done, post a reply based on what ones you checked.

As for me, I've read The Hobbit, some of the Silmarillion, The Fellowship of the Ring, and about three-quarters of The Two Towers.  But, according to the rules, I only did The Hobbit, and The Fellowship of the Ring.   Cool

I read all of them Smiley And I would strongly encourage everyone to read all these books. And if you're still interested in Tolkien's work afterwards (of which I'm sure), there's even more to read. But start with these books, they provide a good basis for other (less comprehensive) works of Tolkien.

I have read all of them except the Silmarillion, which I know I should get round to reading, but at the moment I am going through the trillogy for the fourth time...

Lol.  Fourth, eh?  I ain't read 'em once!   :-[  lol.  I plan to though, but not yet.  I've found that it's not good to read a masterpiece like The Lord of the Rings, when trying to write a book of your own((I've written 307 pages in the past six months!  I plan to make it a trilogy, of four-hundred pg. books.)).  I used to do that, and I've failed at every attempt because I saw how flawed my writings were compared to Tolkien's, and Paolini's and others'.   ;D

You're a member of the Lord of the Rings forums, and you haven't read the books once! For shame! I read them at bedtime mainly, because I'm so busy in the day I have little time to sit down and, *sigh* breathe. But as long as you're going to read them eventually...

Hmm... I've read all the listed ones, and Unfinished Tales. There are some overlapping storylines, but it clarifies some things.

I've read all books listed when I was quite a bit younger. At that time I liked The Hobbit the best but having gotten involved in writing online, I can appreciate the extensive information and description which the FotR, TT and RotK hold. I've since looked at those three again and am hoping to find my long lost Silmirllion (sp?).
