Turin is personally one of my favorite characters in Tolkien's world.  The major contrasting element with him as opposed to say characters like Tuor, Beren, Aragorn, and Gandalf would be how he met his end - i.e. committing suicide.  Turin, although full of "epic moments" did not finish well in the end.  Even a character like Boromir, who kind of succumed to the ring, turned things around before he died, showing his true qualities.

Well Turin i believe was more tragic and had of course a great backround story which combined tragic and epic moments at the same time.I really like this character and i consider his story the top in silmarillion.

Turin is a great character, but Earendil is my favorite because of him Middle Earth was saved from Morgoth. Smiley

I don't know about Túrin's being my favorite character, but he does have the most interesting and intriguing story. His background is so drastically different from Tolkien's other characters that it's a bit difficult to really compare them, but I really do like the story of Túrin, and would consider it one of the best. It's such a tragic and well-developed plot, and he is such a deep and realistic character.

The comparability lies in his nature and ability as a warrior - how he was a leader and how he defeated many foes valiantly and with courage and honour.  Like Aragorn, he was admired and respected amongest the Eldar.  Turin didn't finish well, unlike the others I listed.  Whether this was due to the curse of Morgoth or not, is open for debate.  I don't think any other hero would have acted much differently if they had been deceived to the same level as Turin was when the dragon, Glaurung put his spell on him.  The loss of Finduilas was more than he could bear.  I admire Turin, but he was an unfortunate soul in many regards.
