Was Turin's tragic death simply a result of Morgoth's curse, since tragedy and misfortune seemed to follow him wherever he went?  Would other heroes have fallen to same fate if they had been faced with the curse of Morgoth?

No i don't think that was the cause of the curse... but i also don't think it would of happened to anyone else.
