Just heard that Iowa has (R) Huckabee in the lead, on the radio.

(With that name, the commercials write themselves . . .)

Hillary might be the more talented of the two main candidates as well.

What's wrong with a female president?

Oh, I suspect there's nothing. (Gogo Gro!) She just meant that she'd be embarrassed (kinda) if the US got a female president before liberal, progressive Sweden. Her post was of a sarcastic nature, I presume. (If this presumption is wrong, please beel free to correct me, Melian)

I am quite sure you are 100% correct!  Wink   Although, I cannot by any means speak for her....

This will be the first year that I can actually vote in the presidential elections, so I would normally be pretty excited about that...only there's only crap for options out there.  *sighs*

I'm leaning toward Huckabee right now, although it'd be nice if McCain could get in there.  Romney's a Mormon, so that kinda rules him out in my book...tho I might vote for him if it was either him or a democract/liberal...hehe.

I'm definatley thinking Obama's gonna take it tho.  Not sure.  Just speculation.

If Hillary becomes president...I'm moving to Canada. Tongue

You'd be welcome if you came.  Yeah the political situation is not great, but I am in the opinion that Harper is the best option we have - maybe the lesser of evils, so to speak.  The Liberals lost the trust of Canadians with their sponsorship scandal.  And the NDP just plain sucks.

Thanks...count on me coming up if it happens. Wink  I thought about Mexico, but then I'd have to learn Spanish...

I'm totally lost on Canadian politics/parties...what's the NDP equivelent in America? (and what IS the NDP?)

Not sure if there is an equivalent in America.
The NDP is the New Democratic Party and they try to be socialist.
The conservatives and liberals are almost the same, but I think that Harper is dangerous.
The liberals passed gay marriage and he wants to get rid of it.
The liberals said no to Iraq and he would have been right in there.
I think he is scary.

When it comes to Canadian politics, I'm behind the Bloc Québécois all the way!

Lairënuriel:  If Harper scares you, what about Paul Martin or Jean Chretien?  I'd take Harper over corruption.  Could you honestly see Stephan Dion as Prime Minister?  He doesn't have it in him.  Though he seems like a nice guy, nice guy's don't necessarily make good leaders.  I don't think Harper is all that bad.  It's more that some eastern Canadians don't like having a western Canadian guy in power.  He is from Calgary (where I live) and is fairly popular over here.  Don't forget that enough people in Ontario voted for him too.  Conservative support also increased significantly in Quebec.  I'm not going to get into the gay marriage debate anymore in here.  But I do respect someone who is willing to stand up for their convictions, and doesn't feel the need to follow the status quo all the time.  Harper is an intelligent guy, and none of the other party leaders offer any real challenge to him.  I'm tired of hearing anti-Harper propaganda.

The Bloc Québécois -  lol - yeah lets support the separatists!   Wink  Though Gill Ducepe does entertain me.

Ahhh...I see, I see...

Then it seems, Harper is exactly the sort of fellow I would vote for, were I Canadian.   Yes

Holy Cow!  Shocked

Not liking Harper does not mean I like any of the others!!!
I wouldn't have a problem with someone from the west if they were someone that I agreed with the politics of!  We're all Canadians.
I don't want to revisit the gay issues already discussed either, arguing makes me nervous.
I just wish that we had some better options.  I think one of the best things about Canada is that it's a live and let live kind of place and I don't want it to change.

Lairënuriel: Well like I said earlier - Harper is the lesser of evils, so to speak.  Though I think he is a decent person.  I always stress the importance of voting, but have become somewhat cynical about the process and the choice of candidates - actually political leaders in general.  Poltical leaders can at best, can be trusted to administrative matters - i.e. the running of the country.  It wouldn't matter who was in power in Canada, the opposition would always disagree, because that is what the opposition does best.  I mean once in awhile the Liberals might come up with a good point.  But rarely does the opposing party want to compromise.  Compromise is something that is needed more of in politics, but I doubt that will happen.  I wish we had better options too.  And I don't believe that the Green Party will do much better.  I listened to their leader banter off about stuff concerning the current government, and I said: "I don't think you'd do much better."  All of the Canadian parties are kind of jumping on the global warming/climate change bandwagon.  We'll see how far this one goes.  I wonder if Al Gore has been monitoring the weather this winter in Canada.  Because, we are having, and will continue to have, one of the coldest in recent years.  Global warming?  Maybe; probably not.  Maybe it just all boils down to politics.

The only politician that I've ever met as an adult is our current Mayor (in Toronto) he is a very nice man.  That being said, he still has had to increase taxes and shut down some very valuable community services.  I know he did not want to do this but he 'had' to.

I always vote, but it has been very hard the last few times.  Our last provincial election I made sure that I knew what was going on in our local riding and chose that way.  I don't know what I'll do next time.

About global warming - it is happening.  This winter is caused by el nina.  They have been predicting an old fashioned Canadian winter all year.  The polar ice caps are still melting and the average temperature of the earth is still rising.  We are just being blessed with a winter this year (I love the winter).  What we need to do is use our heads.  Turn off the lights, don't drive when you don't need to.  I know people that drive their kids to and from school 4 times per day and they live a 10 minute walk away!!!  Buy organic and local. Don't use super cleaners (one step better and cheaper is make your cleaners).  Recycle.  If everyone did just those 5 things we would probably be fine.

I wish it was as easy as chosing between elves, humans, orcs, hobbits and dwarfs!
You know who I'd vote for!

Global warming, huh?  I haven't really thought much about it-honestly, I think there are more pressing matters.  I don't think this world has got long to live anyway; I'm more concerned with the present and future wars.  (that and gas prices...*slams head into wall* They're killer!).

Of course, I'm one of those "wackos" that think the world's going to end pretty soon after Jesus comes back.  It's not so far off, if you really look at what's going down.  We're headed for a global society-now or in another 100 years.
