I started this topic due to the heavy fires that really burnt all here in greece,in order to see opinions on what must be done to those who put the fires.i have the opinion that the least that must be done to them is put them in their house and burn them and after that the goverment take all their personal property. This situation makes you really angry and the worst is that after as it usual happens after every summer, after every fire  some people are buying this land and build houses and staff(when i say ppl i mean rich ppl).im not going to stay on that i just want to ask for your opinions what punishment is deserved for those who start the fires.

I can only try and understand your anger and frustration at the recent fires that have ravaged parts of Greece.  That news was terrible when I heard about it.  Many Greeks living in my city here in Canada, knew people who lived in the area, or knew someone who did.  Has it been proven that the fires were indeed caused by arsonists?  Or were they simply wild fires that got out of control?  Typically, there are wild fires that ravage areas of the BC interior and some parts of the Rocky Mountains during the summer months.

Anyway, if it is the case that arsonists caused this carnage, then they should receive the due penalty under Greek law for their crimes.  I woud think that for someone who intentionally burns down an area that is significantly populated, must know that people will be in harms way.  This would lead to me state that such a crime should be at least considered as second-degree murder, if not first degree.  Anything from 25 years to life in prison would be what I would hope for.  I don't blame you for wanting vigilantism - I often times wonder where the true justice is, even in supposedly democratic societies.  But vigilantism is a slippery slope, and could easily lead to anarchy.  Although there might be a place for it.

Numenorian,I tottaly understand you. This summer we had fires in Croatia, too.Luckily, not in the area I'm living in.But those people should be severly punished. Here,in Croatia they are punished with only 100-300 euros,or something like that. That's nothing, the damage from the fires is way higher. Those people should be locked up for life, there is no way for them to get well.I think that is a mental disease.

Last week there was a fire in a national park in Croatia. This park is made of a group of beautiful islands. There was a fire on one of them and we didn't have enogh planes to put it out,so we sent firemen there. They were left in the middle of a burning island, without water, without any chance to put out the fire or escape. Most of them were 17-19 years old. They were burnt alive. Most of them died during this week, others are fighting to stay alive and doctors are trying to save their lives.Their skin is 90% burnt and most likely they'll all die.The fire was caused by a young man who smoked.Nobody blames him now.It was an accident. Most of us,including the parents of those who died blame it on the chief fireman who sent them there to die,and the gouverment. How can someone do that? They were too young to go there,it was against the law.By all this,I just want to say:do you really know can you trust those whose job is to protect us when they send their firemen into death?  Sad Sad Sad

What i hated the most in this situation was the politics none of them in the history of mankind(kings queens politicians every one of them) had no dignity never helped his country not even 1% of it(well except fidel). You can't have people burning and the goverment opposition trying to push for the elections(i am not saying that our goverment is better they did the same when the others were in goverment).Well i got out of topic again but dunno after they burn arsonists they should burn all the parliaments and palaces of the world to get rid of these mother f.....s.Sorry for my language but they make you talk bad and yell if you were here you would say exact the same thing(for the politicians in general i believe it every second i breath and ill breath that they are mother f.......).
