A woman who was left infertile after cancer therapy, has lost her fight at the European Court of Human Rights to become a mother using her frozen embryos.

Her ex-boyfriend, who fertilised the eggs, has argued he should be able to choose when to become a father, and with whom.

The court ruled his right not to become a father is stronger than her right to become a mother.

What do you think?

Personally, due to her inability to have children of her own anymore and the boyfriend having knowledge of the fact that they might breakup some day while donating his sperm, I would rule in favour of the woman, but that's probably because I'm a closet Feminist.

She should really adopt to be honest.

Very nice to see you Heru! I was just thinking of you the other day...

I'm with Heru. The man made the decision to fertilize the eggs with this woman, and therefore already made his choice at that time.

Although, if she was planning to try to get child support from him, and expected a relationship from him with the child, I can see his point.

That really is a tough one, i would be on the side of the woman if she wanted to have children, but i would have to wonder if her body could withstand the pregnancy after being weakend by the cancer treatment.

At the same time i do agree with the boyfriend that he at this point is not in a VERY serious committed relationship and if he does not wish to be the father of this woman's children then he can have that choice.

It just really is a tough situation to really take a side on.

It's like everyone says, she could always adopt a child and save herself from the risks that birth could bring upon her, especially after the damage she has aquired from cancer. She said in the interview she could "never be a mother" now, but adoption would mean she could be in a few years, even though the child would not be born from her own womb. But it is tough to rule in favour of the ex-boyfriend or the woman herself.

Not all those who wonder are lost.

This is why we have anonymous sperm banks . . .

I'm legally in favour of the male, here, if the use of his semen will result in any obligations to him. He is quit that woman. Although I sympathize with her inability to have children, adoption is a viable alternative to carrying to term and I've never met a family who didn't feel just the same for their adopted children as the children they themselves have born to term.
