It looks lke talks went badly so Jackson may not do the hobbit.

I would be really skeptical of any of the usual US companies doing it but I would find it hard to resist as I am a great Smaug fan.  But just imagine the horror of the Hobbit with Narnia special effects  Cry

It isn't just Jackson but the settings and his special effects company which is second to none IMHO

I like the version done some years ago...the animated one. It wasn't too bad, so yeah, I'd watch a different director's version.

I will most likely see the movie, regardless of who directs it.

I think different director doesn't matter to me. I'm a huge fan of LOTR. I give more importance on the movie.

Having PJ would be a huge draw to the films but i would say taht the biggest draw for me would be if New Line was the producing cinema and if Weta is doing the digital and stuff for it.....

As long as there are those 2 things i dont think it will matter much if PJ directs or not, but i would rather he did.

Yes, I would rather there be a PJ-directed Hobbit, but I love Tolkien-based works too much to not watch it anyways. Interpretation, skill, and detail are very important.

I don't Know. I'd probably wait untill one of my friends saw it and told me if it was any good. I don't have a lot of extra money for movies, so i only go see the really good ones.

Without Jackson any other Tolkien movie would not have the same feel.  It would not be the same without him.  However, as a die-hard fan, I would still go and see any Tolkien film.  And it is not out of the realm of possibility that someone else might be able to do a good job also.

I would see it but it wouldn't have the same feel. I wouldn't want to see it but I would have to...

I think NewLine are idiots and should be thrown off a cliff  Innocent, only if PJ doesn't direct it  Kiss.

I would go to see it because I love fantasy film.
It would not have the same look and feel of LOTR which would be disappointing as I think the films were visually stunning.  I also think that many of the important cast members would not sign on without Peter Jackson.  My main concern is Gandalf whom I think was perfectly portrayed by Ian McKellen.

It'd be like the Harry Potter movies, which have changed director hands several times.  Each director puts his own touch on it, which makes it an interesting experience (with the drawback that there's no continuity between the films).  It would be interesting to see a different perspective on Middle-earth.

I'd be nervous regardless who did it, but I'd definitely feel better with PJ directing, especially if he had Weta on special effects and Howard Shore for music, and of course Andy Serkis as Gollum!! Without Andy Serkis, I'm not sure how interested I'd be.  Undecided

Different perspectives are always welcome, but in this case, judging by how much PJ's version was is loved, I think more people would prefer familiarity, as the Hobbit is part of the same story.

I would have to agree too; it wouldn't be the same without those people doing the film- there would be a different feel, a different interpretation, and, well, skill.

I don't even want to imagine a film of "The Hobbit" without Ian McKellen as Gandalf.

Or, perhaps even worse, Elijah Wood as Bilbo Shocked
