Or, perhaps even worse, Elijah Wood as Bilbo

What!? That would be terrible.

All we can do is cross our fingers and wait.

Elijah Wood as Bilbo?  That seems a bit crazy.

Where are the talks at between New Line and Jackson?  What kind of progress is actually being made toward making the Hobbit film?  I hope that things really move along soon.  Because with the release of the Children of Hurin, we have yet another Tolkien story capable of epic cinimatic proportions.

Thanks for the link, Lairënuriel.  Well that article certainly doesn't close the door on Jackson doing the Hobbit film.  Lets hope that New Line and Jackson can work out their differences and make this film.

That would be really scary!   Shocked
Anyways,I would watch a non-Jackson hobbit but I still hope that he gets to direct it!

So... PJ being involved is good, but not as director? I don't know about that. I haven't been paying as much attention to this issue lately.

looking very promising - here is an excerp from the one ring.net

The Telegraph Talks Gandalf & McKellen

8/16/07, 12:09 pm EST - Xoanon

telegraph.co.uk recently ran this small article, which should be taken with a large grain of salt: Sir Ian McKellen's dream of reprising the role of Gandalf - the role that turned the stage actor into an international film star - looks like being realised after all. Last year, it had looked a distinctly forlorn hope after Sir Ian's friend Peter Jackson, the director of the The Lord of the Rings trilogy, said he wanted nothing to do with turning Tolkien's other great work, The Hobbit, into a film after a row about money with the production company New Line Cinema. Now, however, Jackson appears to have patched things up with New Line's founder, Bob Shaye, and the film looks back on course.

By a happy coincidence, Sir Ian is currently in New Zealand performing in King Lear and plans to dine with New Line's bosses shortly when he will make it clear how keen he is to play Gandalf in the new film.

More info from the one ring.com

UPDATE: Bruce Campbell wary of Sam Raimi’s “Hobbit”, “Bob Shaye-dy”, and “New Lies Cinema”

http://www.theonering.com/articles1-5589819/UPDATEBruceCampbellwaryofSamRaimi8217s8220Hobbit82218220BobShayedy8221and8220NewLiesCinema8221

OK, here I am a mod making back to back to back (to back!) posts...  but here is another update:

from theonering.net:

WizardUniverse.com is reporting that Sam Raimi is definitely NOT involved with the film version of 'The Hobbit.' In a late report from Comic-Con about the '30 Days of Night' film, Sam Raimi answers the question about his involvement with Hobbit: "I am not involved. I respect the director [Peter Jackson] a great deal and he may do it some day, so no." Why this specific information has not been reported from a well attended panel discussion at Comic-Con, we don't know. We will try to confirm this information and report our findings ASAP!

UPDATE After checking around a bit with some sources, it seems Raimi is still potentially available to direct 'The Hobbit.' His answer to the question during the Comic-Con panel was intended to diffuse more 'Hobbit' questions and concentrate on the '30 Days of Night' questioning. One source tells us that he was in fact not involved with The Hobbit at that point, as there are ongoing talks about making the Hobbit happen. So his answer of 'No' is accurate.
