Lexicalized is...the Rising Phoenix

The current goings on in the "King of the Hill" thread have got me thinking about another RPG, involving some Phoenix and Dragons, which I think would be very interesting.  I have no definite plot/goal in mind, but I'm certainly brainstorming right now.  If anyone's interested in jumping in an rpg centered around those two mythical (and other mythical beasts if you wish, i.e, centaurs, minotaurs, etc) please post here with your intentions of joining...

And, please, by all means, offer your advice to what the RPG should specifically center around.  Things that would still need to be figured out are things like;

1.)  "Is this a made up world, or if not, what world?"
2.)  "What's the main goal/quest of the RPG?"
3.)  "What kinds of races should and should not be allowed?"

Let me know if you're interested....

Me too!
I like the idea of other sorts of creatures too (maybe we can steal a Balrog or some High Elves from Tolkien, as this is a LOTR site - I'm sure no-one will mind  Wink )

For it to be fun and easy to contribute to, we might need it to be a made up world where anything is possible, a bit like the "King of the Hill", otherwise we might all have to spend long hours researching ancient mythology!  Smart

I'd love to keep it tolkienesque - I'll be an elf!  Tongue
Are we to be a group on a quest - what shall it be?  Is the fate of the world in our hands?  Or are we an unassuming group that has a catastrophic event occur that sets things in motion?  The possibilities are many...

Awesome! I'm loving the support here.  Sorry I took so long, been gone to NC for a week.  I'm totally cool with making up lots of stuff, but I think it'd be cool if we tried to stay at least SOMEWHAT close to reality (don't make your dragon breathe melted marshmellows, come, come...).

As for the "quest," I don't care what we do.  I think it would be cool to do something on middle earth, perhaps, and just throw in some interesting characters?? (Like the phoenix, etc).

I am thinking of writing my own lord of the rings stories and I need people to star in them.

who from here would like to star in three lord of the rings stories? I am writing. I'm playing gandalf, my other friend, mandy is playing legolas.

If anyone wants to star in them, send me a pm if you want to be in it and mods, feel free to delete or even move to the right place.

Let's get this thing moving, gents...

I'm assuming we're sticking with Middle Earth here (with some slight variations/deviations perhaps).  SO now we have a PLACE...we just need a time frame and a goal/quest for the RPG.

I'm all for the time being after the destruction of the ring.  I think Middle Earth is then extremely open to change, growth and transition into some new emerging form.  What an exciting feeling to be the leaders of Middle Earth's tomorrow!   Huh  Woy...too much election campaigning going on around me...Forgive me.   Tongue

Well, I'll join, because this is beginning to sound very interesting. If you're in need of any evil/sinister characters, for the sake of plot and suspense, then I'd gladly fill that role. Please note, I don't intend to use wolves or any variation- as I think I keep that vibe strong enough in GH, and to be honest, after a while it does get me feeling very self-repetitive. Dogs, maybe. Anyhow, I've always liked the idea for some sort of animagus; like a dark mage or such like that could shapeshift into a raven.

As for quest ideas, I think the classic good versus evil is a bit overused...so we want some sort of conflict and sense of urgency, but not one that will just lead to a battle of godmoding. I like the idea that someone turns from the path in some way, or a gradual unveiling of some hidden truth.

That's actually a very good idea, Wolf, about not having a clear good vs. bad plot line.  I never thought about it, but it would be much better to have a lot of conflict and confusion.  There could not neccessarily be one good, clear way in whatever this quest is.

This is completely a random, off the top of my head kind of thought, but what if, supposing some orcs and such escaped after Mordor, they suddenly resurfaced--BUT...appealing to the human side of Gondor, Rohan, etc, and seeking to be allowed to live in "peace."  They tell of their torment under Sauron, etc, and plead for mercy and equal status with humans, dwarves,, etc....NOW...whether or not they were serious or merely pulling off some trickery could be up to us to figure out, and could cause conflict between nations, etc...

Anyways, that's just a random thought, take from it what you will or dismiss it, either way...

Why make it based on tolkiens work?It will be better to make up a story and then expand it and make it to a world(yes like dnd) it ll be far better and it ll be easier for everyone to play form my point of view ofc.

Hey numenorian,

That's a good question.  For me, I choose Tolkien's world because I'm fascinated with it, you don't have to do as much making up (there's a world of history in those books, quite literaly), and this is, after all, a site based on the works of Tolkein.  If you're interested in doing a non-LOTR rpg, I'd suggest talking to the mods about it and getting their approval, although, I should think they would let you.  If not, we'd be glad to have you join us in this RPG.  Smiley
