*"You may call me what you may Augrim.  The message is often unpopular, even moreso the messenger.  I am no betrayer.  But now is not the time for me to reveal my true identity.  If I was untrustworthy, I would have tossed you into the bar, not Mahni.  Mahni is a fool.  He may have grown up here, but serves the Witch, and for that he is doomed.  If you wish me to leave your town I shall do so.  But know I came here to help.  If I leave, I will leave into the hills to never return."  Daulyn spoke up and scolded the Watcher: "You have no right to speak like that to us humble townsfolk.  Go and be gone, for I don't care!"  Nartes turned and grabbed Daulyn by the jacket.  "You speak up now, mutterer?  Now you pretend to be brave?  I will leave if it is the will of Augrim, for he is obviously the leader among you all.  But as I said, I am good and seek only to rid this land of the evil which controls it.  What say you Augrim?"*

Augrim rose from the table, wearing a stern, but resolute expression; "Watcher, I assure you, I am no leader, nor would I call myself so. My species gives me wise outlook, but more than that a desire to keep at peace those that should be so. Please, release my friend- and take not his words to heart, he speaks with loss more than anger."
Nartes released Daulyn with a deliberate push into the arms of Olcia and Hleian, the latter of whom were braced to hold him back, though the man did not seek to return to the Watcher's eyes.
"Our blood is fired by drink and debate. Let us not bring this disturbance to the eyes of the war-torn. Stranger, I don't know you as well as I know my counterparts, but I will withdraw further judgment from you until there is occasion to prove yourself. We'll make our own ways home this evening, and rise with sun by 'morrow. The patrol of the woods remains, and I shall not allow grievances to mar this study. Until tomorrow my friends, I bid you keep safe."
The centaur looked to Daulyn, who bore signs that Mahni's betrayal was starting to take effect. Helping his father to his feet, the pair exited the inn without looking back.

*Though the centaur demonstrated humility, his wisdom and leadership were evident with his closing statements.  Nartes knew these things to be the truth, but would be on his guard for further treachery, from wherever it came.  But now Nartes had revealed himself, and with his assaulting of Mahni, the guards would be looking for him.  He needed to find somewhere to hide for the night.  And maybe the notion of a disguise was not a bad idea either.*

*Nartes found his way out of the bar through a back door.  He disappeared into the back alley and into the night.  He knew of an abandoned barn on the outskirts of the town - and there he would stay for the night.*
