One thing about Gondolin is, if anyone has read the Silmarillion here, that I don't quite understand how Turgon managed to transport and acquire resources such as food in a valley that was ment to been kept secret. Unless they carried it by eagle Roll Eyes which I doubt it's true.  Anyone, does anyone have a quote or any ideas of how they would?

i haven't read the silmarillion for a long time, and when i did i had just finished reading lotr and the hobbit for the first time... so i don't fully know.

wikipedia.org might have stuff, although i've found stuff on there that isn't totally accurate for tolkien related stuff.

Gondolin was protected principally by the power of Ulmo and the eyes of the Great Eagles.

I think!

To give an answer to the original question: I'm almost certain that Gondolin was an autarky. They did not need to import goods to maintain their high standards of life. Remember how Maeglin got caught when he was searching for ore? They made their own weapons for example. I'm also quite sure there was enough space and knowledge to grow and breed their own food.

Their great advantage is that they didn't need much oil those days Wink
