Hello everyone!

There is something I found interesting while reading The Silmarillion; it is about a link between Tolkien's Middle-Earth and the lost continents of Atlantis and Lemuria; and I would like you guys to tell me what do you think. It was too big to put it on a single post so I decided to break it into three parts and attach them to the posts.

Hope to read your comments  Wink

This is a very good analogy.  I have read the Silmarillion and the Children of Hurin and I never thought of it this way.  There is some truth to this.  I've always felt that Tolkien had more messages in his writings than just pure fantasy.  What are your thoughts.

Yes I agree.  Although Tolkien's writings might not be pure allegory, they do reflect certain themes and symbolism.  When I read the account of the Fall of Numenor, Numenor immediatly reminded me of Atlantis and its fall (whether legendary or not - the whole Atlantis idea has been debated upon for centuries).

When I read the Silmarillion I also saw some striking paralells between that of Melkor (Morgoth) and the biblical account of Lucifer (Satan).  No doubt Tolkien incorporated certain Christian themes within his Middle Earth.

Visit these topics as well if your interested in discussion that has already taken place in these regards: "Spiritual Metaphor" in "Mythology and Metaphor" and "Blue Wizard Idea" in "The Books."

Where I live in Northern California, there is a legend surrounding Mount Shasta which says there is an ancient civilization living deep in the mountain - Lemunerian!  These beings have various kinds of appearances and also have the ability to transform into a 4th dimension, rendering them invisible to "us".
